DUBROVNIK CROATIA - CROATIAN IMMERSION

<<<< RETURN to main page (Dubrovnik Croatia Language vacation)

Class Schedule
Classes take place between Monday and Friday from 9:00 to 12:30.

Please note that during the summer months, the course timetable may be adjusted and some programs may be taught in the afternoons. In such a case, the cultural activities would take place in the morning, rather than in the afternoon. Your instructors will keep you informed.

All of our teachers are native Croatian speakers and hold a university degree in Teaching Croatian as a Foreign Language. The school students come from a wide variety of fascinating nations such as Argentina, USA, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Poland, Germany and Turkey. Many of them have Croatian family heritage as well.

You should bring a dictionary, notebooks and colored pens. It is useful to have 2 notebooks, one for new vocabulary, and one for the exercises in class. Textbooks and other teaching materials are provided, but it is advisable to have a good system of keeping your notes together.

Activities & Excursions
Every week there are planned excursions to different tourist attractions and cultural places of interest around the area. For each excursion there is a tour guide who gives a thorough explanation of the site and a presentation to the students. Teachers give students an introduction to the site they will be visiting before the trip.

Typical cultural opportunities: museum and gallery visits, history and culture lectures, guided tour of various neighborhoods, day trips such as the Island of Lopud or the Town of Cavtat.

Tours include may include a pleasant walk along the main street Stradun, discovering buildings of Dubrovnik's past and present. Visit the cities ancient walls (an entrance ticket for city wall access is required).

Day excursion to the Elaphiti (Elafiti) Islands
A visit to the Elaphiti (or Elafiti) islands is a must - there are 13 islands of this archipelago, northwest of Dubrovnik but only three Elaphiti islands are inhabited: Koločep (pronounced Kolo-chep), Lopud and L ipan (pronounced Shee-pan). From the starting point of trip, Lapad Bay (see Starting points of excursions), a boat will take you to these three islands. Enjoy the beautiful vegetation, the great beaches and visit the remains of the patriarchal residences.

Day excursion to the National park Mljet
The island of Mljet is the perfect place for those who enjoy the undiscovered nature and the absolute peace and serenity. The main attraction of this island are its two salt lakes. After arriving to Mljet by fast boat, enjoy the pleasure of a boat ride around St. Mary island located in the big lake. Later, visit the Benedictine convent from the 12th century or just relax, swim, sun bath or walk the island.

Day excursion to Korčula Island
Korčula is considered to be the birth place of Marco Polo, and according to the legend it was founded by Trojans. Its history and tradition are obvious as you walk down the streets and the plazas of this beautiful town.

Catch a bus through the PeljeLAac peninsula, famous for its vineyards and then by boat that sails out from the town of Orebi?. On Korčula, visit the Cathedral and the Abbatial treasury. The Abbatial treasury is situated on the south side of the Cathedral and the treasure is located within the seven halls and represents perhaps the most prominent collection of its kind in all of Dalmatia. On your way back stop in Ston, a historical little town on the PeljeLAac peninsula.
