Spanish Language Immersion in Guanajuato
Guanajuato is the capital of the Guanajuato State at an altitude of 6,583 ft is a historical and picturesque town of pleasant little plazas, streets lined with stairs and houses of pastel-colored facades and balconies trimmed with iron work, and flower-filled window boxes, located about a five-hour drive northwest of Mexico City.
The town is a maze of cobblestone streets and alleys that wind around steep hillsides upon a small ravine, opening into vistas of beautiful churches and small plazas which are mainly pedestrians only.
There are dozens of plazas and plazuelas in the center of Guanajuato, lending it even more of a distinctive European flavor unlike that of perhaps any other Mexican city.
Once a major Silver mining centerit is now University town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Guanajuato has no traffic lights or neon signs, creating an extremely enjoyable place to walk, peaceful, yet with plenty of life in the streets.
Guanajuato is host each year to the International Cervantino Festival, named in honor of Miguel de Cervantes, author of "Don Quixote." Artists from around the world perform in recitals, concerts, plays, ballet, modern dance, opera and art exhibits. Events are held throughout the city and, indeed, throughout Mexico in other cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara and San Miguel de Allende.
Practically the entire state of Guanajuato has a pleasant climate with temperatures between 12ºC and 24º C.

After class & weekend activities
Guanajuato is, and has been for a long time, a center of culture and education so enjoy social & cultural outings during the week with other students from the school.
Explore museums, cathedrals & colonial sites, Indian markets, ruins and local places of interest, enjoy local architecture. The summer provides several local festivals with carnival like atmospheres. In the fall, the city hosts a world-renowned three-week international cultural event -- El Festival Internacional Cervantino.

Arrival airport: León/Guanajuato
You will arrive into León International Airport (also known as Aeropuerto del Bajío - Airport code: BJX) located just 25 minutes from Guanajuato.
The easiest way to get here is to fly direct. There are international flights to León from the United States via Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Chicago. A second option is to fly to either Mexico City or Guadalajara and take a connecting flight to León.
A less expensive option is to fly to either Mexico City or Guadalajara and then take a bus direct to Guanajuato. The bus from Mexico City takes about 4 hours, 15 minutes; the bus from Guadalajara about 3 hours, 45 minutes.
